The Tanzanian government has received financing from the African Development Fund in various currencies towards the cost of a Kenya–Tanzania power interconnection project to be carried out by the Tanzania Electric Supply Company (TANESCO).
It is intended that part of the proceeds of this financing will be applied to eligible payments under the contracts for plant design, supply, construction, installation and commissioning of:
Lot T5 – rural electrification of along the 400kV Kenya–Tanzania power interconnection project (KTPIP).
TANESCO tender information
Therefore, TANESCO is extending an invitation of sealed bids from eligible bidders for the execution of the following works under this project.
Electrification of villages along the 400kV KTPIP, the major works to be carried out by the preferred contractor shall comprise of, but not be limited to, the following:
- The project consists of design, manufacture, test, supply, erection and commissioning of 33kV, three phase lines with different equipment such as reclosers, fuse cutout and low voltage network with distribution transformers and also some lighting network.
- Lot T5 has approximately 98km of 33kV lines and about 50km of 400V to be constructed.
- Also included are about six transformers of 50kVA, 15 transformers of 100kVA to be installed and service lines and meters to about 10,000 customers.
International competitive bidding method with ‘single stage’ bidding procedures will be followed in accordance with the Bank’s rules and procedures for procurement of goods and works, 2008 edition revised July 2012.
Interested eligible bidders may obtain further information and inspect the bidding documents from the office of TANESCO at the address provided.

Bidding documents will be posted on the website of TANESCO for ease of inspection.
A complete set of bidding documents may be purchased by interested bidders upon submission of a written application to the above address and upon payment of a non-refundable fee of TSh150,000 ($69) or equivalent in any freely convertible currencies.
The method of payment will be direct payment in cash at the address above. TANESCO will however make arrangements for electronic receipt of payments.
The banking details will be posted on the TANESCO website (www.tanesco.co.tz).
Conditions for submissions
The bidding documents may be sent via email for delivery within or outside Tanzania, if specifically so requested by the interested eligible bidders.
However, TANESCO will under no circumstances be held responsible for late delivery or loss of the documents so mailed.
The provisions in the instructions to bidders and in the general conditions are the provisions of the African Development Bank standard bidding document for procurement of plant design, supply and installation.
Bids must be delivered to the above office on or before 7th November 2016 at 10:00am, East Africa Local Time and must be accompanied by a bid security of not less than $80,000 or its equivalent in the form of bank guarantee.
