Borja Valero is SolarReserve’s Vice President of Construction, responsible for driving Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) activities related to SolarReserve’s 6.6 gigawatt (GW) portfolio of utility scale photovoltaic (PV) and solar thermal (CSP) projects worldwide.
Valero leads efforts to successfully execute the company’s portfolio of projects, from identifying and securing top-tier, competitive EPC contractors, to managing construction of each project until it is fully commissioned and transferred to asset management.
Valero secured EPC contracts and led the project execution for SolarReserve’s three PV projects now in full operation in South Africa: the Lesedi (75MW), Letsatsi (75MW) and Jasper (96MW) projects. In addition, Valero is responsible for EPC activities related to the company’s Redstone 100 MW CSP project with 12 hours of energy storage in South Africa, as well as the Copiapó 260 MW CSP 24/7 baseload solar facility in Chile.
Valero brings 18 years of experience in project management, construction and engineering in the water treatment, conventional power and renewables industries to his role at SolarReserve. He brings valuable experience in international power development, having executed projects in 6 countries spanning 3 continents, which is a significant contribution as SolarReserve continues to expand worldwide.
Valero joined SolarReserve from Grupo SANJOSE, a global construction and energy company, where he headed the EPC department, executing projects including tri-generation plants, desalination facilities, and two 50 MW solar parabolic trough projects. Valero’s prior experience includes an array of conventional power and renewable energy infrastructures totaling over 1150 MW of generation capacity and 54 millions of gallons per day of desalinated water in the US, Mexico, Algeria, South Africa, and Spain. He has held engineering, business development and project management roles at Grupo COBRA, TIC, and Abengoa.
Valero has a master’s degree in Civil, Construction and Environmental Engineering from Universidad Politécnica in Madrid, and a Global Executive MBA from IESE Business School in Barcelona.
