Update: Eskom resumes with rotational load shedding | Stage 3

Rotational loadshedding moves to Stage 4 from 13:00 to 22:00, South Africa’s power utility Eskom announced on Monday (11 February).

Eskom recently resumed its rotational load shedding schedule, which left many in darkness this weekend.

The parastatal confirmed this morning that Stage 2 load shedding would continue across the country today due to a number of generating units tripping, causing a reduction in total supply.

Stage 2 calls for 2,000MW to be loadshed on rotation as a measure of last resort to protect the power system from a total collapse or blackout.

The utility stressed in a statement: “We continue to appeal to residents and businesses to use electricity sparingly during this period. Please switch off geysers and all non-essential appliances to assist in reducing demand.”
