The Southern African National Committee of CIGRE, CIGRE SANC, will be hosting is biennial international conference at the Lord Charles Hotel, from 14-17 November 2017, under the theme “Electricity Supply to Africa and Developing Economies: Challenges & Opportunities”.
CIGRE (www.cigre.org.za) is a 96-year old international organization of 9100 individual members and 1100 collective members worldwide, headquartered in Paris, France. It was set up to advance the sharing of technical knowledge on large electric power systems.
The Conference comprises working group meetings, 8 technical tutorials on various topics on the 14th, a technical paper program that will see 80 papers presented in 7 sessions, exhibitions and two technical site visits on Friday the 17th. One of the tutorials, sponsored by the World Bank, is a Masterclass on the design of overhead power lines. The World Bank is looking to improve skills for the efficient design of electrification infrastructure in developing countries. 400 delegates are expected to attend.
In addition CIGRE SANC is proud to be hosting the CIGRE Technical and Steering Committees on 13 and 14 November, following the holding of the Administrative Council meeting in September, in Auckland, Australia.
Members of the press are invited to join the conference. A media session will be held on 15th November between 10h00-10h45h, when the Chairman of the National Committee will be available to take questions and distribute relevant material. The venue will be announced at the opening session.
