According to Daniel Swanepoel, managing director of Daniel John Consulting, the time for investing in Africa’s electricity sector has dawned. He does however advise foreign investors to be mindful of the varied and complex market rules of each African country. In order to work around the various challenges, he suggests working alongside a local partner who can ‘open doors quicker’ as he or she will understand the local market better. He adds that it is a good idea to set up a manufacturing business with local content in mind to take advantage of various tax breaks, manufacturing grants and incentives.
