The African continent’s grid-connected solar photovoltaic industry is having a stellar year so far.
According to UK-based consultancy African Energy Live Data, new grid-connected photovoltaic (PV) installations accounted for more than half of the total installed power generation capacity in the first quarter of 2019.
By deploying 556MW of PV capacity, the continent was already able to install 40% of the PV capacity it did in the whole of 2018. However, some experts believe that, in order to sustain this growth, African countries will need to take their solar energy markets to the next level.
Solarplaza has invited one of those experts, Benjamin Attia, Research Analyst, Power & Renewables at Wood Mackenzie, to present his perspective on the key drivers and risks to the growth of African solar energy markets during the ‘Trends and forecasts for Africa’s grid-connected PV markets‘ webinar, which will take place on August 15, 2019 at 16:00 CEST.
The webinar will also focus on identifying the fastest growing countries and market segments, as well as provide data-driven insights into the project development landscape for grid-connected solar PV projects across the continent.
Both the webinar and our recent ‘Eastern Africa: Regional Solar Report’ are part of the preparation for the fourth edition of the Unlocking Solar Capital: Africa conference, taking place on 16-17 October 2019 in Dakar, Senegal.
The event will be hosted by Solarplaza, in collaboration with GOGLA and FMO, and will be a unique international platform completely focused on connecting solar project development and finance and investment across the entire African solar sector (utility-scale, commercial and industrial, mini/microgrids and off-grid segments).
