SA and France extend nuclear cooperation

]Paris, France --- ESI-AFRICA.COM --- 7 March 2011 - French nuclear energy specialist Areva and the South African Nuclear Energy Corporation (NECSA) have signed an agreement to extend their ongoing cooperation to develop South Africa’s nuclear industry.

The agreement was signed by Areva CEO Anne Lauvergeon, and Necsa CEO Rob Adam in the presence of French minister for industry Eric Besson, South African energy minister Elizabeth Dipuo Peters, and South African industry and trade minister Rob Davies.

EU likely to meet 2020 renewable energy policy goals

]London, England --- ESI-AFRICA.COM --- 07 March 2011 - Latest figures on the progress of renewable energy in the European Union (EU) show that its 2020 renewable energy policy goals are likely to be met and exceeded, if member states fully implement their national renewable energy action plans, and if financing instruments are improved.

Chinese solar power dominates African energy exhibitions

]Johannesburg, South Africa --- ESI-AFRICA.COM --- 4 March 2011 - In a show of commercial muscle that highlights China's growing investment in Africa, Chinese solar power producers dominated exhibits at an energy conference on a continent where nearly two-thirds of the population is not connected to electric grids.

“ It's like an invasion!” exclaimed a South African exhibitor at the African Energy Indaba, where 60 of the 80 stands were Chinese vendors, according to event organisers.

]Brasilia, Brazil --- ESI-AFRICA.COM --- 04 March 2011 - A Brazilian court has lifted an order that suspended construction of the massive Belo Monte hydro-electric plant in the Amazon rain forest ‒ a project that is expected to face a barrage of lawsuits by environmental critics.

Chinese to construct cascade of 13 hydropower projects

]Beijing, China --- ESI-AFRICA.COM --- 03 March 2011 - Chinese hydro-electric power company Huadian plans to construct a cascade of 13 hydropower projects with a combined capacity of more than 21 000MW along the Nu River in the country’s Yunnan Province, according to media reports.
