Hitachi ABB Power Grids has secured a $17 million contract with an India aluminum producer to ensure the reliability of energy distribution at the company’s Korba plant in Chhattisgarh.
Bharat Aluminum Company (BALCO) has selected ABB Power Grids for the provision of 400-kilovolt gas-insulated switchgear (GIS) substations that will replace an existing apparatus.
The substations will help better assimilate power from BALCO’s captive generation plants, delivering it with efficiency to the Korba aluminum smelter.
The GIS substation provides space savings of as much as 60% compared to conventional switchgear by virtue of its compact, robust and low-maintenance design.
The substations will be equipped with the solution provider’s advanced MicroSCADA automation solution to monitor and control the aluminum producer’s grid in real-time.
The automation system will also help to ensure maximum power availability. ABB Hitachi Power Grid will also provide the aluminum company with 500MWV power transformers to further enhance grid efficiency and safety.
All the equipment for this project will be manufactured in India.
