Leading IPP in Cape Town looking to hire data engineer

The right person for this role will need a Bachelor of Engineering or Bachelor of Science in Engineering Degree accompanied by at least 3 years of work experience in a similar position. You will stand out from the rest if you have previous experience working in the renewable energy industry – specifically in the solar PV and wind energy space – as well as previous experience working with the OSIsoft PI system or similar and performance analysis systems.

As the Data Engineer, you will be someone who is highly detail-orientated, has excellent verbal and written communication skills and can easily perform under high-pressure and stressful situations.

Education requirements

B.Eng or B.Sci in Engineering

Experience requirements

  • 3+ years relevant work experience
  • Previous experience in the renewable energy industry, specifically in the solar PV and wind energy space is beneficial
  • Experience working with the OSIsoft PI system or similar and performance analysis systems is beneficial

Responsibilities of the data engineer

You will find yourself responsible for supporting the completion of O&M projects, the integration of new power plants as well as three key areas:

  • developing data analysis toolsets for plant performance management
  • developing semi-automated and automated reports
  • Creating visualisation tools for the Remote Operating Centre

Included in these key areas is building tools to support automated underperformance triggers and manual data analysis tools, integrating with the OSIsoft PI WebAPI and creating tools to populate analysis automatically, and enable better visibility of power plant performance at both a technical and management level.

Skills

  • Outstanding English written and verbal communication
  • Proficient in MS Office
  • Excellent programming ability with proven experience in Python, JavaScript or other object-oriented programming languages
  • Impressive skillset on database structures and proven ability to build database queries in Oracle, MySQL or MSSQL
  • Ability to work well in both an individual capacity as well as in a team environment
  • Ability to work under stress and high-pressure
  • Ability to manage various project simultaneously with minimal supervision
