Nigeria to develop a commercial solar power pilot in the Kanu and Kaduna regions

The Department for International Development (DFID) based in the UK calls for expression of interest  for solar developers and solar contractors to pre-qualify for the Supply And Installation Of Decentralised Solar Energy Systems (a commercial solar pilot) In Kano And Kaduna, Nigeria.

Growing the solar market in Nigeria

The SolarNigeria Programme is an initiative of the DFID, which is working towards bridging the gap between public-private markets for distributed power in the Northern states of Nigeria in particular.

The solar power pilot project aims to demonstrate the technical and financial viability of solar power solutions for the Nigerian power industry.

The EOI notice said that the growth in the market for commercial scale solar will have positive effects. These include reduced costs for businesses that will in turn lead to the creation of new jobs, increased productivity and income.

The advert added that by having a more active solar market it will drive down costs and improve the effectiveness of solar, which is provided to government facilities such as schools and clinics.
