WEC highlights energy myths

At the World Energy Congress held in Daegu, South Korea, in October 2013, the World Energy Council (WEC) warned that several prevailing myths are severely hampering the efforts of governments, industry and civil society to create a sustainable energy future.

Christoph Frei, secretary general of the WEC, says, “There are many myths that impact the energy sector which we have been able to expose through our studies.”

Myth 1: Global energy demand will flatten out.
The Reality: Energy demand will continue to increase and double by 2050, primarily driven by economic growth in non-Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) countries.
