7 February 2013 - Ai-TEC recently completed the refurbishment of an eight tonne boiler for South Africa’s department of health at the Komani Hospital in Queenstown, Eastern Cape.

“Prior to the refurbishment of the boiler, this hospital could not provide hot water to patients and there were previously no facilities to cook food,” Arnold Retief, business development director of Ai-TEC, says. “The benefit of this refurbished boiler, which has improved steam output for more efficient heat generation, is improved functionality at the hospital.”

This project, which involved the installation of a recast ignition arch and small arch side seals, as well a complete stoker overhaul, was completed ahead of schedule.

This coal fired John Thompson boiler now provides eight tonnes of steam per hour to the kitchen, laundry and hot water systems at the hospital. All original John Thompson components were used during the refurbishment.
