The company “’ which is represented in South Africa by Surgetek “’ has introduced the Life Check testing device, which quickly and easily monitors surge protection devices (SPDs) to detect thermal or electrical overload conditions that are not generally visible. Results are shown within a matter of seconds, and the SPD module does not have to be removed during system operation.
The SPDs are tested and measured at regular intervals, assessed accordingly to certain criteria and, if required, are replaced. Information is indicated on a hand-held tester that incorporates the RFID reader. Without contact it transmits electromagnetic energy to the responder in the SPD. Tests can be carried out at any time without interrupting the signal transmission.
No expertise is required for testing. The reader facilitates test result documentation, which is mandatory in compliance with the EN 62305-3 standard. The SPDs test data is saved and can be transmitted to a PC for printing or storage via a USB interface.
Also new is the DEHNpipe “’ a TVSS (Transient Voltage Surge Suppression) device built within a corrosion-resistant stainless steel threaded pipe. TVSS is used in a wide range of industrial applications such as water/waste water, petrochemical, oil and gas and control systems. It protects both analog and digital signal loops for PLC outputs/inputs, and field instrumentation such as flow meters, temperature and pressure instruments.
DEHNpipe TVSS is intended to be mounted in exposed outdoor environments, and is attached by screwing the threaded end into the housing of the instrument it is protecting. Its primary application is for 24 V, 4 – 20 or 0 – 20 mA loop circuits. The arrester provides an energy coordinated surge protection for two conductor process field devices in outdoor areas. It is easily installed, operates in a -40°C to +80°C temperature range, and meets IP67 requirements.
