African Utility Week (AUW) is proving to be the top event of its kind in southern Africa, having won the Exhibition and Event Association of southern Africa (EXSA) industry award for the best trade and consumer exhibition in its category. These awards are considered the most prestigious in the events industry.

The 38% attendance growth in 2013 saw more than 5,000 utility professionals attend the event. African Utility Week and Clean Power Africa, is organised by Cape Town-based Spintelligent.

Event director Russell Hughes says, “We are working with the industry to deliver relevant content for the industry, including the utility CEO forum that was introduced this year and next year will bring together 20 utility CEOs from across Africa to discuss the future of the energy market. We will also offer more free technical training workshops in association with the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE) and we are partnering with the Southern African Asset Management Association (SAAMA) which is organising its inaugural Asset Management Conference during African Utility Week.”

The next African Utility Week & Clean Power Africa is taking place at the Cape Town International Convention Centre from 13 − 14 May 2014 and is attended by power and water professionals from more than 30 African countries and 70 worldwide.

In November 2013, Eskom announced that it will be the official host utility for the event for the next five years. During his keynote address this year, Eskom CEO Brian Dames described African Utility Week as “an annual pilgrimage on the calendar of African electricity and water utilities, and as Eskom we are proud to have been a part of it for the past 13 years.”

Global utility service providers including Accenture, Symbion Power, Powertech, SMA, Landis+Gyr and Ernst & Young are also longstanding supporters of the event.
