The Energy and Environment Partnership covering Southern and East Africa (EEP Africa) has announced the opening of a gender-themed Call for Proposals.
EEP Africa is a multi-donor fund providing early stage grant and catalytic financing to innovative clean energy projects, technologies and business models.
This call is focused on promoting leadership and economic opportunities for women across the clean energy sector.
EEP Africa seeks applicants
The organisation is seeking applications that propose innovative approaches to gender inclusion while also supporting core business objectives and growth. Projects will be evaluated based on concept innovation, development impact (with particular focus on gender), business model and financial sustainability.
Women are disproportionately affected by energy poverty and underrepresented in the energy sector. “Current gender inclusion efforts remain insufficient,” notes Wim Jonker Klunne, EEP Africa Lead Coordinator. “Many initiatives have a narrow focus on women as consumers, rather than supporting women as leaders and innovators in society. Through this call, we aim to strengthen the role of women in a variety of roles at all levels of the clean energy sector.
Applicants can apply for early-stage grants and repayable grants between EUR 200,000 and EUR 500,000. The minimum required co-financing is 30% of the total project budget. All applications need to demonstrate clear additionality of EEP Africa funding.
The call for proposals officially opens today [20 February 2019 at 16:00-17:00] at The Michelangelo Hotel (135 West Street, Nelson Mandela Square, Sandton, in Gauteng, South Africa).
