Expectations for Power Africa initiative in 2015

Every edition of ESI Africa  poses The Big Question – a question that challenges thinking, inspires reaction and deserves comment. Share your thoughts and insights with the editor and readers of ESI Africa and voice your opinion around some of the burning issues facing the energy and electricity sector today.

This edition’s Big Question looks at the relationship between the USA and Africa, with a specific focus on Power Africa, the Obama administration’s initiative to double the number of people with access to power in sub-Saharan Africa. Power Africa aims to achieve this goal by unlocking renewable energy resources (wind, solar, hydropower, natural gas, and geothermal) through the provision of ‘last mile’ technical, transactional and financial insights.

The Big Question we are putting to you is this:

What impact has Power Africa had since it was launched in July 2013 and what should both the USA and African countries realistically expect from Power Africa in 2015? Is this the initiative that will change the face of Africa’s power access?
