“Africa, you are complex and requires someone that understands you. Edison Power Group is a solution based company that doesn’t believe in a one size fits all approach.”

Shantan ReddyExclusive interview with Shantan Reddy, Deputy Chairman of Edison Power Group, platinum sponsor at African Utility Week.

What EPA projects, products and services are you currently most excited about?
EPG is excited about the smart grid ideals and particular mention must be made of smart metering at large. The benefits it provides for consumers and utilities alike are profound and moving into a smarter way of communication in the power and energy industry is particularly exciting for us.

What do you see as the major challenges in the utility sphere?
Major challenges in the utility sphere are somewhat broad in the sense that, challenges experienced currently are not new as they have happened elsewhere in other parts of the world. The biggest challenge in utilities is the readiness and intent to move entities into the new and next generation era. You’ll hear issues of skills shortage, project financing, leadership and expertise issues raised, however, all these aren’t new issues and exist the world over, even here in our own backyard.

What is your vision for the energy industry?
To capacitate it to a level whereby we lead in our country, Africa but most importantly in the world. By ensuring that generations to come have power as our slogan says: “power for generations”.

What opportunities do you see in South Africa/Africa?
Africa is a haven for our group as it has presented us with an opportunity to electrify it. We see opportunities in transmission lines, smart metering, water and electricity management. Together with our partners, we’d like to go back to the night image on Google earth and see Africa alight like the rest of the world is in years to come.

Why did you decide to partner with African Utility Week?
It’s insane not to partner in an event of this nature. We believe it present us with a platform not only to display our solutions but most important allows us a platform where African leaders can talk to us about their problems and we can listen and respond accordingly.

What will be your specific message at the event?
Africa, you are complex and requires someone that understands you. Edison Power Group is a solution based company that doesn’t believe in a one size fits all approach but an approach that understand the differences from one state to another, from one province to another, from one country to another, hence we provide solutions that are “customer specific”, an African specific outlook in mind.

What are you most looking forward to at AUW?
We are looking forward to the entire show but specific mention of the CEO forum is in order here as this platform aligns with our vision of being the “Biggest and Best in Africa” and what better way to propel that vision by engaging with key decision makers in Africa.
