The award-winning energy and water conference and exhibition, African Utility Week, will be colocated with POWERGEN Africa 2019 and will be hosted with dual industry branding at the Cape Town International Conference Centre on 14–16 May next year. This follows Clarion Event’s recent acquisition of PennWell Corporation with a vision to create and deliver world-leading end-to-end power and energy trade exhibitions and conferences.

David Ashdown, managing director of Clarion Energy South Africa (Spintelligent) said at the recent POWERGEN Africa event in Johannesburg that the move is in line with “global trends to bolster the interactive network between power and energy professionals, with a vision to achieve a global footprint for end-to-end power and energy trade exhibitions”.

Ashdown added: “As the power and energy sector converges, integrated generation becomes a standard, renewables drive economic diversity, micro-grids de-risk national infrastructure, financing and investment models evolve, it becomes increasingly obvious that an end-to-end power and energy trade exhibition and conference model is the right positioning opportunity for the industry. We are thrilled to be able to realise this on the continent with the colocation of POWERGEN Africa and the award-winning African Utility Week in Cape Town in May next year.”

At the event, Glenn Ensor, managing director of PennWell International, said that “the acquisition allows a dream that the PennWell team has been working towards for the past few years of bringing the kind of end-to-end events to market that the world needs.”

Mega events predict market growth

The co-located event of African Utility Week and POWERGEN Africa in 2019 will deliver upwards of 350 exhibitors from across the continent and globe, showcasing industry solutions and services and presenting new technologies, alongside more than 10,000 industry professionals from all over Africa looking to share experience, learning and knowledge, seek solutions to challenges and source new suppliers. All this is supported by a number of industry events to strengthen what is already an iconic power platform in Cape Town, South Africa’s Mother City, including:

  • The critically acclaimed and by invitation only, CEO Forum
  • The African Utility Week Industry Awards, recognising excellence
  • Co-located industry association conferences and meetings
  • Numerous product launches and networking functions
