Mining to boost DRC’s development
iPAD DRC’s project director Soren du Preez says as the DRC embraces 50 years of independence, it has identified its mineral and energy wealth as the way forward to inject capital back into local communities and build the foundations for prosperity.  “Just recently the Ministry of Energy pledged to work ever more closely with the Ministry of Mines in order to support growth of industrial operations within the country”, says du Preez.

iPAD heads up Katanga Briefings
An extra conference day has been planned to take place in Katanga on 29 October.  According to Soren du Preez, “ the DRC province of Katanga is probably the most mineral rich province in the DRC and represents the economic heart of the nation.”  She continues:  “due to the decentralised nature of government in the DRC, iPAD goes to Katanga this year in hopes of reaching out to not only national government but provincial government as well.  In fact, iPAD offers a strategic opportunity to bring Katanga to Kinshasa and vice versa.  Gilbert Kishiba, Legal Counsellor to the provincial Ministry of Mines in Katanga will speak at iPAD DRC in Kinshasa and H.E. Gilbert Tshiongo Tshibinkubula Wa Tumba, Minister of Energy in Kinshasa, will join iPAD in Katanga to address local participants in Lubumbashi.”

Some of Central Africa’s leading mining houses will be at iPAD DRC this year, including:
Tenke Fungurume Mining, Groupe Forrest, Anvil Mining, Kibali Gold, Vale, Ashanti Goldfield and Micromine.
