South African state-owned power utility Eskom has launched a campaign as it continues its steady fight to combat electricity theft and electricity non-payment.

The Customer Incentive Campaign has been rolled out in hotspot areas including Limpopo, Free State and the Eastern Cape.

The Campaign, which was launched in October, will run until 31 December 2018.

The Campaign offers a 50% discount off the tamper fine to prepaid customers who have tampered with or by-passed their electricity meters, who connected electricity in an irregular manner and used illegal pre-paid vouchers instead of buying valid electricity vouchers.

The utility has noted that customers who come forward to become "clean and legal" will have an opportunity to have their electricity supply normalised without having to pay the full tamper fine and the reconnection fee.
