Bobby Godsell confirmed as next Eskom chairman

17 July 2008 - It has been confirmed today by public enterprises minister, Alec Erwin, that Bobby Godsell, former AngloGold Ashanti CEO and Business Unity SA chairman, will be the next chairman of South African utility, Eskom.

Godsell, who has been very involved with the National Economic Development and Labour Council's (Nedlac) responses to the current power crisis, resigned as CEO of AngloGold Ashanti earlier this year. He will, reportedly, replace outgoing chairman, Valli Moosa.

Godsell recently called for a 'national effort to respond' to the electricity crisis in South Africa, saying that while acknowledging the crisis was predominantly due to the government, it was unhelpful to seek scapegoats. He called for lessons to be learned from the failure of participants to respond to the 1998 White Paper, which warned of power shortages in 2007.
