A group, Isolux Corsán, which is rolling out energy projects in seven African countries, includes among these an initiative to bring electricity into 33 rural villages in Gabon. That project covers villages located in the provinces of Estuaire and Moyen-Ogooué and has a budget of €34.6 million. It includes the installation of 20 kilometres of 225 kV power lines.
The schedule for completing the electrification of the Gabonese villages is 30 months from February 2011. Isolux Corsán will install 200 kilometres of 20 kV power lines, of which 140 kilometres will run between Kango and Lambaréné with the remaining 60 kilometres between Bifoun and Ndjolé. As part of the project, it will also build a 225/20 kV substation transformer in Bifoun.
This operation will supply power to over 10,000 villagers in rural areas that have no access to electricity. It forms part of the Gabonese government’s modernisation plan to encourage economic development in the country and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
At present, the electricity access rate in Gabon is roughly 60%, with power reaching 80% of the urban environments and 35% of the rural areas. The government aims to guarantee 100% coverage by 2020.
In addition to the Gabonese project, Isolux Corsán is operating rural electrification projects in Angola (Kwanza Sul, Malange and Cabinda-Landana) and Mauritania (Rosso- Boghé).
Overall, Isolux Corsán is and has been rolling out projects in seven African countries; Angola, Algeria, Equatorial Guinea, Gabon, Morocco, Mauritania and Mozambique.
