Luanda, Angola ---ESI-AFRICA.COM --- 30 January 2012 - The governor of Angolan capital city Luanda, Bento Joaquim Sebastião Francisco Bento has emphasised the need to improve the supply of electricity and drinking water, especially in suburban zones of the country's capital.

The pledge is expressed in a message the governor addressed to Luanda residents on the celebration of 436th anniversary of the city. “These issues deserve attention of the central government, especially of the president, José Eduardo dos Santos, and the provincial government,” said Bento.

He announced that construction had started on the power supply substation and the electricity connection of more than 700,000 homes under the auspices of the Electricity Distribution Companies (EDEL) and public water company (EPAL) in Luanda.

The governor also spoke of emergence of the new cities, as well as the merger of the districts of Icolo e Bengo, in the light of the recent political and administrative division of Luanda.

Luanda province comprises seven districts; Luanda, Cazenga, Cacuaco, Belas, Viana, Icolo e Bengo and Quissama.
